  • Relay for Life Pinto bean supper at Grace Lutheran, Wednesday, May 18th at 5:45 in our Fellowship Hall

    Grace Lutheran Church's Relay For Life team will host a pinto bean supper. The proceeds from the supper will go to The American Cancer Society. The supper is Wednesday, May 18th at 5:45 in out Fellowship Hall. Please join us in supporting cancer research by joining us at Grace. This is also our last Holden Evening Prayer if you'd like to stay for that after your meal. We will see you at Grace.

  • Watauga Extension Service to offer Master Gardener Course

    Watauga County Cooperative Extension Service will be offering the Master Gardener Course. Classes will be held each Thursday from 8:30-12:00 starting March 3rd and running through June 9th. The Master Gardener program is a volunteer program where you give 40 hours of volunteer time and in turn you receive 40 hours of training in subjects including botany, plant propagation, houseplants, lawns, plant insects, diseases, weeds, fruits and vegetables, flowering plants, houseplants, and landscape design. Informational meeting to get acquainted and answer any questions you may have will be held on Feb. 2nd from 10:00-11:00 am in the Agricultural Conference Center located at 252 Poplar Grove Rd. or call Paige Patterson 828-264-3061

  • Watauga Cooperative Extension to Sell Quality Fruit Plants Including Heirloom Apples

    12 Heirloom Apple varieties will be available. Trees will be 2-year-old bare root plants, about 4-5 feet tall on semi-dwarf rootstocks maturing to 15-20 ft. Four different varieties of 3-year blueberry plants will be sold in 1 gallon containers. Strawberry, blackberry, raspberry, and asparagus plants will be sold as bare root plants.
    Supplies are limited. Orders must be prepaid no later than Friday March 25th, 2016.   • Watauga County Republican Women's Club

    The Watauga County Republican Women’s Club (WCRWC) will have its first meeting of the year on Wednesday, January 27th at the Sagebrush Steakhouse in Boone, NC. The meeting will begin at noon. All interested in furthering the Republican cause in The High Country are welcome to attend and are invited to join. Call 828-295-9020 for more information. The WCRWC meets the last Wednesday of each month. There is no meeting if schools are cancelled due to weather.

  • Maha Yoga: An Introduction & Initiation Through Your Enlightened Reality with Adam Saylor

    Cost:$15 (A portion of the preceeds of this event will be donated to the Sri Sri Sri Shivabalayogi Charitable Trust)

    Four Part Workshop:
    -A brief discussion of yogic consciousness and brief initiation into the technique
    -The recitation of mantras
    -A practice of the meditation technique
    -Aarti ceremony- to attract blessings from The Divine and have a deeper level of devotion with The Divine

    This workshop will open up the community to helpful practices that can be done alone to enhance a sense of PEACE, health and well-being, and spirituality.

  • Peewee Basketball Registration (Oct 31 - Nov 13)

    Cost: $40.00 - includes a team t-shirt and a momento for each participant. Payment can be made by cash, check or credit card (online).

    Register Online at www.greenwaybaptist.com or come by the church office Monday-Friday 9-12 and 1-3pm.

    Teams will play on Saturday mornings with games beginning at 8:30am & Thursday nights with games beginning at 5:30pm from early January until early March.

    We are excited to announce a new fall celebration of the feast of St. Michael happening in Todd. It will happen on October 24 starting at 2pm and will include food and a reenactment of St. Michael slaying the dragon. Blackburn House and Elkland Art Center are excited to collaborate on this.     Sunday, September 6, St John's presents its final concert of the season with a repeat performance by the ever popular Trinity Cathedral Choir The a cappella choir is anxious to return to St. John's where according to them,it is "one of their very favorite places to sing" If you have not yet heard them, it is something you will not soon forget. The concert is at 5:00 pm and free to all (donations are gratefully accepted to assist in deferring some of the costs).     Hear local bands Hooligan's Parade (funk/jazz) and The Blue Turnip Band (Beatles covers & original rock) at The Uptown (across from The Local and Chai da Thai) on Howard Street.
    It is Phil-the-bass-player's bachelor party! All band tips will go toward the honeymoon fund. Haven't you always wanted to go to a bachelor-party-gig?
    Stop in and hear some great music from 8 - 11 p.m. This is a family-friendly event, but it might be loud. There will be some rock hits and some original tunes thrown down.

    Sunday, July 5 - Concert at St. John's. The Whitetop Mountain Band will be featured in the second concert at St. John's. Just back from their Australian tour, this well know family group of true Appalachian Mountain musicians will have your hands clapping and your toes tapping.   • "Todd Wright and Friends" Opens 2015 Summer Concerts at St. John's

    St. John’s Episcopal Church, a Summer Mission of Holy Cross Church, will kick off it’s 2015 Summer Concert Series on June 7th., with a Jazz performance by well know jazz artist and ASU’s Head of Jazz Studies, Todd Wright and 4 of his Friends. The quintet of musicians will present an evening of jazz favorites ranging from old time gospel to the likes of Duke Ellington. Concert begins at 5:00 pm
