  • "Todd Wright and Friends" Opens 2015 Summer Concerts at St. John's

    St. John’s Episcopal Church, a Summer Mission of Holy Cross Church, will kick off it’s 2015 Summer Concert Series on June 7th., with a Jazz performance by well know jazz artist and ASU’s Head of Jazz Studies, Todd Wright and 4 of his Friends. The quintet of musicians will present an evening of jazz favorites ranging from old time gospel to the likes of Duke Ellington. Concert begins at 5:00 pm

  • Relay For Life Pinto Bean Supper May 20 5:45 at Grace Lutheran Church

    Grace Lutheran Church is hosting a Pinto Bean supper on Wednesday, May 20 at 5:45 in our Fellowship Hall. Proceeds from the supper will go to support the American Cancer Society and our Watauga County Relay For Life.     The farm exist to provide safe interactive experiences for children and families to know God and Jesus Christ in a horse and farm environment. We are a 501C3 non-profit ministry that uses horses, bee keeping, and gardening to share The Gospel of Jesus Christ to children and families that may be experiencing difficult life situations, living in high risk environments, or facing a challenging need.

  • Screening: I AM A GIRL

    I AM A GIRL is an inspirational documentary that shows what it means to be a girl in the 21st century. In the movie we meet 6 girls from different countries. As they come of age in the way their culture dictates, we see remarkable stories of resilience, bravery and humor.

  • Fundraiser for Women's Home in Watauga County

    Be a part of a new faith-based residential home for women overcoming addiction to drugs or alcohol. Kari's Home for Women hopes to welcome their first clients in early 2015. The second annual Kari's Home fundraiser and Silent Auction is Thursday, Nov. 6th, 6:30 p.m. at Greenway Baptist Church. Former addicts will talk about their recovery which was helped by living in a similar faith-based home in the Triad area.   • Chicken Q Sale

    The Mountaineer Detachment of the Marine Corps League will be selling BBQ chicken to raise money for this years' Toys for Tots campaign. Cost is $10.00 per plate and includes half a chicken, baked beans, cole slaw and a drink. Advanced tickets can be purchased from any Mountaineer Detachment member or at the Moose Lodge or VFW. Come enjoy a good meal and help a worthy cause!

  • Know Watts Cooking- the Physics of Energy-efficient Cooking"

    A free, public event which will kick off the 2014-15 Science Seminar Series at AppState. Join us for this informative and delicious introduction to physics. Through basic physics explanations, we will discuss the most efficient methods of cooking including pressure, induction and solar cooking. This talk will assume no prior physics knowledge and will include tasting of our efficiently cooked food.

  • Concert at St. John's Episcopal Church

    Sunday, August 31, 5:00 pm, St. John's Episcopal Church will present its final concert of the season with the return for the 4th time, the a capella Choir from Trinity Cathedral, Columbia, S.C. These exquisite voices, with an extensive repertoire that includes early chants, the renaissance and wonderful old spirituals , have thrilled our audiences each year. Bring along a picnic to share after the concert and meet with our guest musicians. St. John's is located on Herb Thomas Rd., just off Mast Gap Rd., signs will be posted.   • Appalachian Mountain Brewery Teams Up with Watauga Humane Society!

    On Thursday, August 14th from 4:00-7:30 pm, Watauga Humane Society SNIPS (Spay-Neuter Is a Positive Solution) will team up with Appalachian Mountain Brewery to raise money for low cost spay/neuter specials. The Brewery is dog-friendly, so bring Fido! Handcrafted dog toys, bowties, homemade dog treats & catnip fish will be for sale with 100% of the proceeds SNIPS/WHS Spay-Neuter fund. A Silent Auction of pet-themed goods and services is on tap, too, plus the "Farm to Flame" food truck. Eat dinner while you're supporting SNIPS! The band, "Dog's Best Friend." will play beginning at 7:30 pm.

  • Watauga Youth Chorale Registration

    Registration for the Watauga Youth Chorale will open Wednesday Aug. 13 for one week on the ASU Community School website. The Watauga Youth Chorale is a newly formed chorus consisting of youth, grades 3-8. This chorus will be directed by Lisa Combs, a career music educator in Watauga County, and accompanied by Laurie Nicholson. Rehearsals will be on Tuesdays at 4 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church. The choir will sing a variety of styles of music. There are no auditions; each child just needs to love to sing.   • What Every Woman Should Know About Managing Her Assets: A Four-Part Program

    When: August 21st & 28th, September 4th & 11th. Where: Watauga Public Library from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm.

    This four-part program is designed for women and balances the logic of finance with the emotions associated with managing money. Learn about your risk investment style and how it influences your finances; learn about ownership and how to protect your assets. There will not be any sales of products or services allowed by either the presenters or attendees.
