  • Fall Festival at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church

    Cowboy hats and boots are welcomed at the Wild West Fall Fest at Mount Vernon Baptist Church on October 31 from 5:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Come join us for an evening of Family, Faith and Fun! This Family Friendly evening will be full of games, food and just plain old FUN for kids of ALL ages!! Can’t wait to see you there!! No scary costumes please.

  • Know Watts Cooking- the Physics of Energy-efficient Cooking"

    A free, public event which will kick off the 2014-15 Science Seminar Series at AppState. Join us for this informative and delicious introduction to physics. Through basic physics explanations, we will discuss the most efficient methods of cooking including pressure, induction and solar cooking. This talk will assume no prior physics knowledge and will include tasting of our efficiently cooked food.

  • Concert at St. John's Episcopal Church

    Sunday, August 31, 5:00 pm, St. John's Episcopal Church will present its final concert of the season with the return for the 4th time, the a capella Choir from Trinity Cathedral, Columbia, S.C. These exquisite voices, with an extensive repertoire that includes early chants, the renaissance and wonderful old spirituals , have thrilled our audiences each year. Bring along a picnic to share after the concert and meet with our guest musicians. St. John's is located on Herb Thomas Rd., just off Mast Gap Rd., signs will be posted.   • September 6th: Ladies Brunch, "A Woman Adorned"

    Ladies, you are cordially invited to "A Woman Adorned" brunch at Laurel Springs Baptist Church, Saturday, September 6th, 10am-12pm. (No childcare is provided.)   • Appalachian Mountain Brewery Teams Up with Watauga Humane Society!

    On Thursday, August 14th from 4:00-7:30 pm, Watauga Humane Society SNIPS (Spay-Neuter Is a Positive Solution) will team up with Appalachian Mountain Brewery to raise money for low cost spay/neuter specials. The Brewery is dog-friendly, so bring Fido! Handcrafted dog toys, bowties, homemade dog treats & catnip fish will be for sale with 100% of the proceeds SNIPS/WHS Spay-Neuter fund. A Silent Auction of pet-themed goods and services is on tap, too, plus the "Farm to Flame" food truck. Eat dinner while you're supporting SNIPS! The band, "Dog's Best Friend." will play beginning at 7:30 pm.

  • Watauga Youth Chorale Registration

    Registration for the Watauga Youth Chorale will open Wednesday Aug. 13 for one week on the ASU Community School website. The Watauga Youth Chorale is a newly formed chorus consisting of youth, grades 3-8. This chorus will be directed by Lisa Combs, a career music educator in Watauga County, and accompanied by Laurie Nicholson. Rehearsals will be on Tuesdays at 4 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church. The choir will sing a variety of styles of music. There are no auditions; each child just needs to love to sing.   • What Every Woman Should Know About Managing Her Assets: A Four-Part Program

    When: August 21st & 28th, September 4th & 11th. Where: Watauga Public Library from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm.

    This four-part program is designed for women and balances the logic of finance with the emotions associated with managing money. Learn about your risk investment style and how it influences your finances; learn about ownership and how to protect your assets. There will not be any sales of products or services allowed by either the presenters or attendees.

  • Appalachian Mountain Brewery Teams Up WIih Watauga Humane Society!

    Please join the Watauga Humane Society SNIPS (Spay-Neuter Is a Positive Solution) for a fun-filled afternoon/evening on Thursday, August 14, from 4:00-7:30 p.m., at Appalachian Mountain Brewery (AMB). The Brewery is dog-friendly, so bring Fido with you! Hand-made, doggy-themed crafts will be featured (including homemade doggy snacks), followed by a Silent Auction of pet-themed treasures. All proceeds go to SNIPS spay-neuter specials. The Farm to Flame Food Truck will be on site, and that night's band, "Dog's Best Friend," will raise the rafters starting at 7:30 pm.   • Concert at St. John's

    Sunday, August 3rd., 5:00 pm, St. John's Episcopal Church presents Ken and Brad Kolodner in concert. Ken is a nationally acclaimed hammer dulcimer artist and old time fiddler and Brad is an award winning banjo player and composer. In additional to performing throughout the country at folk festivals and other venues such as the Kennedy Center, they teach and produce radio programs and other music events in and around their native Baltimore.   • Adoption Special at Watauga Humane Society

    Due to an overflow of pets surrendered to Watauga Humane Society in the last several weeks, between now and July 13, adult cats can be adopted for FREE and the adoption fee for kittens and dogs is only $25. There a dozens of beautiful, well socialized cats, dogs and kittens who need their forever homes quickly. All animals are vaccinated, spayed or neutered and micro-chipped.     Working with a clothed model both indoors and out, participants will learn Kate’s “no brush” technique of applying watercolor and gouache to paper with printmaking rollers.   • Registration for Henderson Guitar Competition

    Registration for Henderson guitar competition: Guitarists who want to compete at the 20th annual Wayne C. Henderson Music Festival and Guitar Competition may apply April 1 through May 1. The winner will go home with a handmade Henderson guitar. Application and details at Vince Gill will be featured at the family-friendly festival June 21 at Grayson Highlands State Park in Mouth of Wilson, Virginia.
