  • Concert at St. John's

    Sunday, August 3rd., 5:00 pm, St. John's Episcopal Church presents Ken and Brad Kolodner in concert. Ken is a nationally acclaimed hammer dulcimer artist and old time fiddler and Brad is an award winning banjo player and composer. In additional to performing throughout the country at folk festivals and other venues such as the Kennedy Center, they teach and produce radio programs and other music events in and around their native Baltimore. Bring along a picnic to share after the concert and meet with Ken and Brad. Located on Herb Thomas Rd., - off Mast Gap Rd - in Valle Crucis. Signs will be posted. Call 828-963-4609 for more info

  • Adoption Special at Watauga Humane Society

    Due to an overflow of pets surrendered to Watauga Humane Society in the last several weeks, between now and July 13, adult cats can be adopted for FREE and the adoption fee for kittens and dogs is only $25. There a dozens of beautiful, well socialized cats, dogs and kittens who need their forever homes quickly. All animals are vaccinated, spayed or neutered and micro-chipped.   • Concert at St. John's

    Sunday, July 6, 2014, St. John's Episcopal Church features Ensemble 322, a quintet of faculty of ASU's Hayes School of Music for Strings and Bow presenting "Spanish Music for Strings". The concert is at 5:00 pm and free to all. Bring along a picnic to share after the concert and meet with the musicians.     Medi Home Hospice is offering two bereavement support groups. The first Tuesday of each month, 11:00 AM at the Avery County Senior Center. We also offer a luncheon/support group on the first Wednesday of each month at 12 Noon at our office. For more information, please call 828-733-0663.

  • Registration for Henderson Guitar Competition

    Registration for Henderson guitar competition: Guitarists who want to compete at the 20th annual Wayne C. Henderson Music Festival and Guitar Competition may apply April 1 through May 1.     We are Redleg Husky, a folk/Americana band located in based in Boone--you might have seen us play around town at the 2013 Banff Mountain Film Festival, the Harvest Boone Community Outreach Festival, or the Howard Street Exchange Festival. We also have frequent shows at Local Lion and Bald Guy Brew.

    This winter, we’re heading to Knoxville, TN to record a 12-song LP at Wild Chorus Studio. We need your help to make this happen. We have a bunch of great thank-yous available!
