  • Vintage Valle Music

    Come! Join us for an afternoon of community music at Baird's Creek Presbyterian Church, 2147 NC Hwy 194 S, Vilas NC 28692, on the 3rd Sunday of each summer month from 4 to 6 p.m.

    Each evening your musical neighbors present 2, 3 or more acoustic music acts. We invite all to join in a closing sing-along jam.
    Gospel, Bluegrass, Folk, Patriotic, Familiar & Original Tunes.

    The first event is Sunday, May 19th, from 4 to 6 p.m. and features:

    Anna Shine. Kraut Creek Ramblers. Damascus. Turkey Tracks Trio

  • Boone Area Lions Club hosts blood drive - Tues. May 7th

    The Boone Area Lions Club wants your blood!

    The Boone Area Lions Club is sponsoring a Community Blood Drive with the American Red Cross on Tuesday, May 7 from 1:30-6:00 pm at the Boone Holiday Inn Express. There is a critical need for healthy blood; don’t pass up this opportunity to help out. To make an appointment, call 264-8226. Drop ins are also welcome.   • Watauga Humane Society Golf Tournament

  • Boone United Methodist Church Pre-School applications being accepted

    Boone United Methodist Preschool is a morning program for 2, 3 and 4 year olds. We provide experiences for children in an environment which encourages the child to ask questions, explore, experiment, make friends, and be aware that every person has value as a child of God. We are currently accepting applications for the 2013-2014 school year.

  • Watauga Humane Society 32nd Annual Rummage Sale

    Friday and Saturday, June 21 & 22
    8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
    National Guard Armory-Boone, NC
    Armory will be stocked full of every thing you could ever hope to find at a rummage sale at the best possible prices. Accepting donations beginning March 25 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., every Monday. After pulling into the Blue Skies parking lot, make an immediate right and continue around the building to next door.   • 4-H Fruit Plant Sale

    Watauga County 4-H is holding its annual fruit plant sale. Proceeds help support youth programs in Watauga County. Supplies are available at a first-come first ordered basis.

    Plants available include blueberry, strawberry, blackberry, raspberry, and heritage apple trees.

  • High Country Community Supported Agriculture now accepting 2013 season members!

    High Country Community Supported Agriculture is now accepting members for the 2013 season. Our weekly shares run from June 4-October 15 with pickup every Tuesday on the porch of Bare Essentials (3-6:30) or at Blowing Rock Produce and Provisions (3:30-6:30).

  • Watauga Humane Society $20 FIX

    PSA
    Watauga Humane Society has contracted with North Carolina State Spay/Neuter Financial Assistance Program to offer a $20 FIX for your dog or cat to qualifying individuals. Annual household incomes under 300% of Federal Poverty Level Guidelines or those receiving Public Assistance will automatically qualify.   • Apply for a Reduced Price Garden Share

    HCCSA Cost Share Program has spaces available for low-income community members to apply for a reduced price Garden Share of local, organic produce. Community members with EBT & transportation are eligible to apply to receive an HCCSA Garden Share for only $100 (regularly $300). Cost divided into monthly EBT payments, June 5-October 16.
    Thanks to High Country generosity, we surpassed our Cost Share fundraising goal.

  • ONE IN THE SPIRIT

    The High Country Lutheran Coalition presents ONE IN THE SPIRIT, an outdoor summer gathering of games, potluck supper, and worship, Sunday, June 3rd at Green Valley Park from 4:30 – 7:30 PM. Worship will begin at 7:00 PM, and all are welcome! This will be the first of three, and there will be a tent set up for some knitting/crocheting in the shade! The second ONE IN THE SPIRIT will be held July 8th at Green Valley Park on Big Hill Road; and the final gathering, for this summer, will be held August 5th at Holy Communion Church on Clark’s Creek Road in Foscoe.     Help Stamp Out Hunger on Saturday, May 12! Just leave a food donation on your mailbox on Saturday and your letter carrier will collect the food and deliver it to the Hunger and Health Coalition.
