  • Make Money and Save Money at The Playhouse Baby Fair and Consignment Sale!

    The 7th Playhouse Consignment Sale and Baby Fair will allow you to update everyone’s wardrobes for a song while also enjoying food, free car seat check, samples, parenting information, kids activities, airwalk, and more on Saturday March 31st. Scoop up the bargains at the Early Bird Sale is 8:30-1 pm Friday, 3/30 ($5 admission).

    Admission is free on Saturday 3/31 from 8:30-1. Half price sale from noon-1 pm. Consigners and vendors still accepted, call 263-0011 or visit us online.

  • Nominations for Great Friend to Families Award Due April 5th!

    Presented by The Children’s Playhouse, the fourth annual Great Friend to Families award recognizes sustained contributions by individuals to the well-being of young children and their families in the High Country area. Up to eight awards will be given in two categories

    The nomination forms are simple and can be downloaded at The Children’s Playhouse website or by stopping by the children’s museum.

  • High Country CSA raises funds to buy shares for underprivileged community members

    Are you interested in making fair, local, and organic food an accessible, healthy choice for people of all income levels? With your support, High Country CSA shares will be available to teen parents and uninsured community members with diet-related diseases in Watauga County through partnerships with the Community Care Clinic and The Children’s Council. Please make a donation to High Country CSA by May 1 to help feed a family for an entire summer. Please share this information.   • After School Semi-Private Swim Lessons Spring 2012

    We are now offering a new session of swim lessons for Level 1 & 2. The class will be no larger than 6 kids and meet twice a week on Monday & Thursday, Level 1 will meet 3:00-3:50 PM & Level 2 will meet 4:00-4:50 PM for a total of 6 days.   • Acting Class

    Whether you are looking to express yourself dynamically onstage, at the podium, in group meetings or in everyday situations this class is for you. Using improv technique you will improve control of your voice, discover techniques to channel “stage fright,” gain confidence, and learn to make your body work for you in a fun, interactive environment. Everyone has within them a unique way of expressing themselves that is compelling to others. Let this class help you find yours.

  • Participants Needed for Study on Child Eating Behaviors! Earn $30!


    •Parent should be primarily responsible for feeding.
    •Child should be 3-12 years old with no difficulties consuming food normally.
    •Data collection will last one hour & will consist of height & weight measurements, parental questionnaire forms, submission of grocery store receipts, & a child interview.

    There is little to no potential for harm and this study will benefit research understanding how child eating behavior develops. Plus you get PAID $30!

  • Meat Camp Fire Membership Info Session

    If you live in or near the Meat Camp Fire District and have ever considered serving your community, make sure to mark Monday, December 12th on your calendar. Meat Camp Fire Department will host a membership information session for you to learn more about volunteer opportunities as a firefighter, medical responder, support auxiliary, or junior firefighter (14 - 17 years of age). There is no commitment to join - just a time to learn more. The event begins at 7 p.m. on December 12 at Green Valley Elementary School.   • Friends of the Watauga County Public Library Holiday Book Sale

    The Friends of the Watauga County Public Library's Annual Holiday Book Sale will take place on Thursday, Nov.3rd 9am, to 7pm; Friday Nov. 4th 9am to 5pm and Sat. Nov 5th 9am to 1pm. Holiday Gift Baskets for children and adults will be featured along with specialty books. A small selection of $1 books will be available. Come early for best selection.

    The Friends of the Library are asking for donations of GENTLY used books for their upcoming Holiday Sale. No text books please...Books can be brought to the Watauga County Public Library. All donations will be greatly appreciated......Remember your donation is tax deductable.

  • Appalachian State University is seeking volunteers for a research study investigating health and support resources for young women who have had an unplanned pregnancy.

    You must be female, must have faced an unplanned pregnancy, and must be between 18 and 24 years old and be able to read, write, and understand English to participate. Volunteers will complete an online survey of questions about nutrition, exercise, and social support beliefs and experiences. The survey will take about 45 minutes to complete.

    Volunteers will be given a $20 online gift card for their time.

    The Watauga Library has discarded all their audio cassette tapes (Books on Tape) and the Friends of the Library are offering them for sale in the foyer of the Library for one dollar each. We've got lots and lots of audio tapes and will be replenishing the table during the week, so come by often to check.
