Green Drinks Boone

Tuesday, April 13, 2010 - 5:30pm - 7:30pm

Depot Street
Boone, NC 28607

Monthly social networking organization meeting to discuss and network about GREEN issues.

At the April 13th meeting of Green Drinks Boone the discussion will focus on some of the green trends that are beginning to influence many aspects of the residential home building market. Terry Taylor, of TaylorMade Building, is sponsoring this Green Drinks Boone event and will lead the discussion that will review how homebuilding and other related business sectors are beginning to see a green trend that is impacting this important sector in the High Country. Terry is a “Certified Green Professional” as designated by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). He is one of more than 40 designated Green Professionals in the Boone area and as the past president of the High Country Home Builders Association is uniquely qualified to talk about how local home builders are embracing green construction methods and products. According to NAHB a green home pays attention to energy efficiency, water and resource conservation, the use of sustainable or recycled products, and measures to protect indoor air quality.

On Tuesday evening, April 13th, Boone Green Drinks will meet from 5:30 to 7:30 pm at the Char Restaurant located at 179 Howard Street in Boone. The group is supported by the Green Building Committee of the High Country Home Builders Association, the High Country Business Network, MountainKeepers, Watauga County Green Business Plan, EverGreen Committee of the Boone Area Chamber of Commerce, and Blue Ridge Entrepreneurial Council. One of the organizers of the event, Quint David, coordinator of the Watauga County Green Business Plan, said “This is a great opportunity for people working or interested in different “green” businesses to get together and talk about what they are doing.”

The group will continue to meet on the second Tuesday of the month and they invite interested people to join them on FACEBOOK at Green Drinks Boone to receive future updates. A number of photos and a great video are posted on the Facebook website. Join us on April 13th at Char Restaurant and help kick off a number of local events that are celebrating the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day on April 17th through April 25. Green Drink Boone is also participating in a second social hour following the Sustainability Symposium at ASU on Wednesday April 21st at Boone Saloon from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.

Green Drinks Boone is an informal social networking organization that hosts monthly events for anyone interested in “green” activities in the High Country. It’s a great way to catch up with local people involved in “green” services and make new “green” contacts. Boone Green Drinks is among 12 other North Carolina communities and 640 cities worldwide that host monthly gatherings of sustainably-minded people who meet to informally discuss green business, green services and green activities.
Green Drinks Boone gatherings are free and open to the public.

Participants cover their own cost of beverages and light snacks are provided. The slogan of the International Green Drinks organization is “Saving the World One Sip at a Time.” Green Drinks offers a great way of catching up with people you know and making new contacts. Everyone invites someone else along so the crowd is always different, making Green Drinks a fluid, self- organizing network. These events are simple and unstructured with a lot of positive benefits. Attendees have found jobs, made friends, developed new ideas, done deals and had moments of serendipity.
