Mitchell County, North Carolina is home to the most UFO sightings in any county in NC. There have been many unexplained events and sightings in the Western NC Mountains. That, combined with the fact that the Mt. Palomar Telescope lens and the Hubble Telescope lens, the tiles used on NASA space shuttles, and almost any microchip technology in the world comes from the Spruce Pine area, makes Spruce Pine the perfect backdrop for the First Annual Spruce Pine Alien Conference and Expo.

On June 14th and 15th in downtown Spruce Pine NC, the Spruce Pine Alien Conference and Expo will beam down. This multidimensional event is expected to bring 10,000 visitors from around the United States. The featured speaker will be Mike Bara from the History Channel’s Ancient Aliens.

Also, there will be a number of panel discussions by local authors, researchers and Alien experts. During the day, residents and visitors will be allowed an “open mike” to tell their stories about close encounters and strange events.

Events will run from 7 pm to 10 pm on Friday and 9 am to 8 pm on Saturday. Friday will include free concerts and paid trips to the Dark Sky Observatory.

On Saturday there will be ongoing events:

9:00am – 8:00pm – Festival Open with vendors, food vendors and beer vendors on Locust Street (Lower Street)

10:00am – 11:00am – E. T. Bike Races on Locust Street (Lower Street)

12:00pm – Car Show at the City Drive In area on Oak Avenue (Upper Street)

3:00pm – 4:00pm – Unidentified Floating Object River Race at the Riverside Park

8:00pm - 10:00pm – Bands at the stage on Locust Street (Lower Street)

9:00pm (ish) – 12:00pm (ish) – Dark Sky Observatory Tours Paid event with shuttle service every half hour

For those that love to play the part there will be a “My Favorite Martian” costume contest for the young and young at heart. Plus an exciting “E.T.” Children’s Bike Race. Included in the downtown area will be food vendors, comic and book authors and a spacious Beer garden.

This is a free event to everyone interested in the unknown. We currently have limited vendor space available. For more information please visit spacenc.com, email us at info@spacenc.com or call us at 828-385-4313
