Date/Time

Saturday, June 15, 2019 - 10:00am - 4:00pm

Location

Grandfather Mountain
2050 Blowing Rock Highway
Linville, NC 28646

Description

Known as one of the most rugged mountains in the southeastern United States, Grandfather Mountain’s trails share the same status. Oftentimes, unique approaches have to be used to maintain this trail system. John Caveny, Grandfather Mountain Natural Resource Management Specialist, has been maintaining the trails within the park for six years, and few people know the ins and outs of the trail like he does.

This course will provide participants with an in-depth look at how to sustainably maintain hiking trails, as well as discover the history of the mountain’s trail system. This course may involve 4 to 7 miles of strenuous activity. Limited to 12 participants.

Registration costs $60 standard or $20 for Bridge Club members. Bridge Club members must present a valid Bridge Club ID with their event ticket/receipt, or they will be charged full price.

To register, see link.

Grandfather Mountain’s Adult Field Course series examines specific aspects of the park ecosystem through just the right combination of fun field excursions and classroom presentations. Our course leaders are experts in their fields and include professors, naturalists, scientists and acclaimed photographers, writers, historians and artists.

Most courses run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and lunch will be eaten in the field. Please bring your own lunch.
