  • Workshop: Expand Your Creative Voice

    Anyone who is a visually creative person and interested in developing their creative talent can benefit by taking this workshop. Explore new ideas and expand your creative voice. Artists, designers, hobbyists, craft persons and visual creative thinkers are invited to attend.

    The workshop is offered 2 times every 2nd Thursday of each month: 12:30PM to 3:30PM and 5:30PM to 8:30PM. OTHER TIMES CAN BE ARRANGED UPON REQUEST. Each session is $35.00. Please call 518 727-5523 or Email : for more information and to register to attend.

    High Country residents are invited to have their eyes and ears examined for free when the Boone Area Lions Club hosts the NC Lions Mobile Screening Unit. The unit will be in the Walmart parking lot in Boone on Saturday, July 8 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. First come, first served.

  • Concert At St. John's

    Concert at St. John's
    Sunday, July 2nd will find The Good Vibes Trio at St. John's Episcopal Church performing swing, bosa nova and torch songs in the style of Lionel Hampton. Bring a covered dish to share and join us for supper on the lawn after an evening of wonderful music. The concert is at 5:00 pm with admission of $5.00 per person.   • Appalachian Nashville Songwriters Meeting

    On Saturday, June 17, at 2:00 Pm Appalachian Nashville Songwriters will be hosting a special meeting. Katurah will be leading a class on "How to write your first song". Many times we have been asked - "I would like to write a song - How do I get started"? If you have asked yourself this question, this is the meeting for you. We will meet at the Boone Library - located at: 140 Queen street, Boone N.C.This is also a good opportunity for established songwriters to participate in the discussion and learn from others perspective and experiences.

  • Concert at St. John's

    Sunday, June 4th at 5:00 pm, the vocal and hand bell choirs of Holy Cross Episcopal Church, joined by special jazz guests Scott Kallestad, Keith McCutchen along with the Banner Elk Presbyterian Church choir will present a swinging evening of old time gospel and soulful music. St. John's is located on Herb Thomas Rd., just off Mast Gap Rd (signs will be posted). Admission is $5.00. Bring along a picnic to share after the concert.

  • Pilates Day National Celebration

    What is Pilates Day? It is an international community event celebrated on the first Saturday of May every year. The Pilates Day mission is to foster the public appreciation and awareness of the Pilates Method by offering a free presentation, educational information, and variety of Pilates classes that are affordable to all.   • Cabbell Concert (Old Time Music Family Friendly)

    Looking for something to do this weekend? On Friday, April 21 there will be an old time Appalachian folk music concert featuring several local musicians hosted by the center for Appalachian studies. It begins at 6:30, is free for kids under 12, $15 adults, $5 for App students, and will be located at the Solarium in the Plemmons student Union. Ticket cost includes light refreshment and supports student research.

  • High Country Audubon Society April 18 Meeting: Bluebird Presentation

    High Country Audubon (HCAS) will have its next meeting on Tuesday, April 18, at 6:30 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Express in Boone. Our speaker for the April meeting will be Anna Pierce, a graduate student in biology who will share the results of her research on Bluebirds and bacteria.   • Watauga County Republican Women's Club

    The Watauga County Republican Women’s Club (WCRWC) will have its next monthly meeting on Wednesday, January 25th at the Sagebrush Steakhouse in Boone, NC. The meeting will begin at noon. All interested in furthering the Republican cause in The High Country are welcome to attend and are invited to join. Call 828-295-9020 for more information. The WCRWC meets the last Wednesday of each month. There will be no meeting if Watauga County schools are closed due to weather.

  • Watauga County School Exceptional Classes 4 v 4 Soccer Festival Fundraiser

    Join us for a 4 v 4 soccer festival on Monday Sept 5th from 1-5 pm at Ted Mackorell Soccer Complex to help raise money to support the self-contained classrooms in Watauga County.
    Teams will play a minimum of 4 games and enjoy music, activities and more. Please help us provide necessary manipulative objects and adaptations for those classrooms. We have packed the bus now let's support those additional needs with this special event!

  • Relay for Life Pinto bean supper at Grace Lutheran, Wednesday, May 18th at 5:45 in our Fellowship Hall

    Grace Lutheran Church's Relay For Life team will host a pinto bean supper. The proceeds from the supper will go to The American Cancer Society. The supper is Wednesday, May 18th at 5:45 in out Fellowship Hall. Please join us in supporting cancer research by joining us at Grace. This is also our last Holden Evening Prayer if you'd like to stay for that after your meal. We will see you at Grace.

  • Watauga Extension Service to offer Master Gardener Course

    Watauga County Cooperative Extension Service will be offering the Master Gardener Course. Classes will be held each Thursday from 8:30-12:00 starting March 3rd and running through June 9th. The Master Gardener program is a volunteer program where you give 40 hours of volunteer time and in turn you receive 40 hours of training in subjects including botany, plant propagation, houseplants, lawns, plant insects, diseases, weeds, fruits and vegetables, flowering plants, houseplants, and landscape design. Informational meeting to get acquainted and answer any questions you may have will be held on Feb. 2nd from 10:00-11:00 am in the Agricultural Conference Center located at 252 Poplar Grove Rd. or call Paige Patterson 828-264-3061

  • Watauga Cooperative Extension to Sell Quality Fruit Plants Including Heirloom Apples

    12 Heirloom Apple varieties will be available. Trees will be 2-year-old bare root plants, about 4-5 feet tall on semi-dwarf rootstocks maturing to 15-20 ft. Four different varieties of 3-year blueberry plants will be sold in 1 gallon containers. Strawberry, blackberry, raspberry, and asparagus plants will be sold as bare root plants.
    Supplies are limited. Orders must be prepaid no later than Friday March 25th, 2016.
